Day of Service: May 27

Post 3063 is proud to participate in the National VFW’s Day of Service program. In May posts around the country are organizing service events in order to give back to their communities. We will do the same by picking up litter at Golden Gardens on May 27 at 2 pm. Comrade Jesse Basher has reserved a shelter on the north end of the park so be prepared to meet there or talk to him if you’re interested in shuttling from the Ballard Elks. Also bring a dish and beverages for the cookout. (We’ll provide the meat, buns and condiments…and also Gatorade, of course!)

Lounge update

Our lounge refresh is coming along nicely thanks in part to a local Boy Scout — Taj — who painted the room as part of his Eagle Scout project. Thank you also to his fellow scouts, troop adults and post members who assisted! Comrades Whetsel and English (pictured) got a start on decorating the lounge in time for the District fundraiser. Looking ahead, we also plan to upgrade the lighting, replace the furniture and update the bar.

Post recycles 125 flags

We performed our first ever flag recycling event March 25. Thanks to our post and auxiliary members for pitching in to disassemble around 125 flags that will be recycled through one of the Seattle Public Utilities Threadcycle partners. We’ll also deliver scraps to Seattle ReCreative.

Flag recycling event March 25

We’re hosting our first ever flag recycling event on the 25th at 2 p.m. at the post. We’ve collected more than 300 discarded flags. We used to dispose of the flags by burning them but neighbors complained and we agreed: this is not an environmentally friendly solution. We did our research and discovered that discarded flags can be properly disposed of by shredding and recycling the fabric, which is a win-win! If you have a pair of fabric shears and would like to help shred, please join us! Also feel free to drop off your unserviceable flags.
