Students interview with Vietnam veterans

On March 18 our post comrades and Vietnam Veterans Joseph Mesa and Russ Seelig interviewed with students at Bellevue Big Picture School, a grades 6-12 choice school in the Bellevue Public School District. Students were interested in learning about veteran experiences in Vietnam… how they became involved, what moments stick with them still, and how their experiences they had there shaped the years since.

The school was very appreciative of the time Russ and Joseph spent with them. They each sat for two interviews with students, and then paired up for a final unscheduled session with two other students. According to the school, “This was a powerful afternoon for all. We are so grateful for you sharing your experiences and reflections… Thank you all for your help with this, for your service, and for your honesty and candor.”

Day of Service: May 18

Mark your calendars for May 18 for our post’s VFW Day of Service. In conjunction with One Seattle Day of Service, we’ll spiff up the post and outside property, recycle discarded flags, and end the day with a barbecue, courtesy of Comrade Joe Fitzgerald. Family and friends are welcome to join us! Stay tuned for more details.

Ballard Food Bank drive results

Members, families and friends filled our donation bins, equating to 202 pounds of non-perishable items donated to the Ballard Food Bank. We also collected $215 in monetary donations. Thank you to everyone who participated!

If you missed out on this drive, don’t worry, we still have a bin stationed in the lobby. Once the bin is full, we’ll do another donation drop off.

Holiday giving

Ballard Eagleson VFW Post 3063 marked the end of 2023 by extending a helping hand to organizations that also epitomize dedication and service to veterans.

We provided donations to three local veteran nonprofits: Friends of the Fisher House Puget Sound (Seattle VAMC), Heroes Cafe, and the Seattle Stand Down. These organizations, with their unwavering commitment, embody compassion and selflessness towards our veterans and their families.

Comrade Commander Teeter had the privilege of presenting the donation checks and engaging with the incredible individuals steering these organizations. The meetings sparked discussions about future collaborative efforts.

We stand proud knowing that our contributions will fuel the impactful work of these deserving organizations. It serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of service, reaffirming the pledge to support those who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation.
