Ballard Eagleson VFW Post 3063 sponsors the Ballard Freedom Scholarship for deserving active WAARNG members in the 181st Brigade Support Battalion (BSB) who will enroll full-time in an accredited vocational, technical, college, or university in the fall term. The 181 BSB is the VFW Post 3063 adopted unit and the post’s goal is to assist exceptional soldiers within the 181 BSB. The $2,000 scholarship shall be paid directly to the candidate to help defray tuition costs, fees, and expenses.
The following materials must accompany the Ballard Freedom Scholarship application form:
- An acceptance letter or transcript to an accredited vocational, technical, college, or university.
- A 1-page letter from a leader in the drilling member’s chain of command confirming the WAARNG members drilling status and their recommendation for the scholarship.
- A typed 300 to 500-word essay in which the candidate explains:
- What does the VFW mission of “To foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military, and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans.” mean to you?
- The awardee must be willing to receive the award at an in-person recognition event where pictures may be taken for publicity use. Exceptions can be made.

The application deadline is June 1st, 2025 and selections will be made by July 1st, 2025.
