VFW Post 3063

Commander's Corner: May 2025

Comrades,

As my term as Commander comes to a close, I want to express my deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve this Post and our veteran community.

We’ve shared moments of impact, connection, and reflection, but I would be remiss if I didn’t also speak from the heart. One of the biggest challenges we continue to face is the need for more hands, more voices, and more members stepping into the work that sustains our mission. This is not a critique: it’s a call. A reminder that the strength of this Post is not in one leader, but in all of us.

Leadership isn’t always about titles, it’s about showing up. Whether it’s helping with events, mentoring younger vets, or simply attending meetings, every action matters.

As I step aside, I’m hopeful that a new wave of energy and engagement will rise. Thank you again for the privilege of serving you. I’m not going far and I’ll be cheering for this team every step of the way.

In comradeship,
Commander Alyson Teeter

District 2 Fundraiser recap

Thank you to everyone who came out to our District 2 Spring Brunch Fundraiser April 5!

We had a full house, beautiful gift baskets, and great energy all around. Big thanks to the scouts for their help, the Fremont Rotary Club for showing up to support, and all the volunteers from the District posts and VFW 2289 Auxiliary who made the event run smoothly, including our very own Comrade Aaron Cook for cooking up a fantastic brunch.

It was a great way to kick off the weekend and rally around a cause we care about, raising over $2,000 for the District 2 youth essay program. Your support helps make scholarships and opportunities possible for local students.

Thanks again to everyone who donated, attended, or pitched in. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Quartermaster's Update: May 2025

As we near the end of the 2024–2025 term, I want to sincerely thank each of you who has contributed your time and energy to help Post 3063 grow and thrive. Your involvement—big or small—makes a real difference.

I encourage every member to stay engaged and find ways to support our Post’s activities. Even a small contribution of time can have a meaningful impact. Without continued volunteer support, the strength and future of our Post are at risk.

Looking ahead, I’m honored to serve as Quartermaster for the 2025–2026 term. I’m hopeful for a year filled with new energy, enthusiastic participation, and shared progress. Together, we can set and achieve meaningful goals for our community and fellow veterans.

Thank you again for your dedication and comradeship. Let’s keep the momentum going strong into the year ahead.

Quartermaster Joseph Mesa

Post partners with UW MBA program

We're thrilled to announce that Ballard Eagleson VFW Post 3063 has officially kicked off a transformative collaboration with an exceptional team of six veterans from the UW Foster School of Business MBA Consulting Project!

This spring quarter, these talented MBA candidates will be working closely with our Post leadership to develop actionable recommendations for improving member engagement and cultivating future leaders within our organization. Their military background combined with new business expertise creates a uniquely qualified team to address the challenges facing veteran service organizations today.

The challenges we face aren't unique: membership activation and leadership development are critical issues for VSOs, fraternal organizations, religious institutions, and community groups nationwide. We believe the insights from this project will create ripple effects for our fellow VSOs.

We're especially grateful to partner with fellow veterans who understand our mission on a personal level. Their dedication, energy, and expertise were immediately apparent during our kickoff meeting yesterday, and we look forward to building a sustainable relationship with both the team members and the broader UW Foster Veterans Association.

Stay tuned for updates as this impactful collaboration progresses. We're committed to sharing the lessons learned to benefit the wider veteran and community organization ecosystem.

Business meetings now start at 6 p.m.

Based on survey feedback about meeting formats, the post voted to shift our start time from 7 to 6 p.m. starting with our April 3 meeting! We will also cease providing meals. Here's our reasoning for the changes:

  • Starting earlier will help folks who have a tough time driving in the dark.
  • When we finish at 8, folks are too tired to socialize. We think ending by 7 p.m. will foster more opportunities for socializing outside the post (i.e. Sloop, Lockspot, Kiss Cafe).
  • Meals are difficult to plan for since attendance fluctuates month-to-month. It also zaps resources from a leadership team already stretched thin.

We will continue to offer a Zoom option for virtual attendance. We're procuring higher quality A/V equipment that will hopefully improve the the meeting experience for those online. Here's the info for our April meeting:

April 3, 2025, 6 p.m. (NEW TIME!) – VFW Post 3063 Monthly Business Meeting. All members are encouraged to attend! In person at the post or Zoom option:
